What is the maximum lifting capacity of MAGBAT magnets?

The highest capacity currently available in the MAGBAT range is 50,000 kg and more, made possible with the HM2-16-500 telescopic electro-permanent magnetic beam. This system is designed for large, heavy steel plates up to 16 meters in length and 4200 mm in width.

What factors influence the lifting capacity?

The maximum safe lifting capacity depends on several technical variables:

  • Material type: not all steel grades respond equally to magnetism.
  • Material thickness: thicker materials provide better magnetic contact.
  • Contact surface: flat, clean surfaces allow for stronger adhesion.
  • Air gap: any space between the magnet and the workpiece reduces force. That’s why all systems are designed with a safety factor of 3:1 measured at a minimum 0.4 mm air gap.
  • Load dimensions: longer or wider plates require more modules to avoid deflection.
  • Number and layout of magnetic modules: all systems are modular and adjustable to the application.

Can MAGBAT electro permanent lifting magnets lift thin steel sheets?

Yes. The HM3 series is specifically developed for handling thin steel sheets starting from 3 mm. It features a 4-level PICK-UP force selector, allowing the magnet to lift just one single sheet from a stack.

With up to 24 magnet modules (as in the HM3-12-040), this system can safely lift thin sheets up to 4,000 kg, without sagging or accidental pickup of multiple sheets.

What about coils, tubes, billets, or round parts?

MAGBAT also designs custom magnetic modules for lifting irregular or cylindrical workpieces:

  • HC series: lifting steel coils (horizontal or vertical eye)
  • HT series: handling tubes and pipe bundles, without damaging coatings or paint
  • HB series: for slabs and billets with large air gaps
  • HR series: lifting cylindrical rounds with integrated V-profile for centering

Are MAGBAT lifting systems safe?

Safety is built into every MAGBAT system:

  • Safety Factor 3:1: all systems are engineered to lift only 1/3 of their tested holding force.
  • Permanent magnetic force: no power is needed to keep the load secured.
  • Landing detection system: prevents demagnetization while suspended in air.
  • SPC (System Performance Check): monitors magnet status in real-time.
  • Double-button control: prevents accidental demag.
  • Visual LED status: operator may only lift when green light is continuously on.
  • Remote operation: allows control from a safe distance.

Even during a power failure, the magnetic grip remains active, ensuring 100% safe lifting at all times.
